John’s planning experience includes advice, consultation, and preparation of wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and transfer documents. John also reviews estate plans drafted by other attorneys and updates them according to the changed needs and life-circumstances of his clients.

John’s administration experience includes advice and representation in simple and complex estates and trusts, including advising on trustee powers and rights, proper distribution, and legal compliance.

John’s litigation experience includes modification of irrevocable trusts, trust and probate related eviction matters, trust contests, and trustee disputes.


John attended Cornell University, where he earned his B.A. in English Literature.  John earned his J.D. at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, in San Francisco, California, graduating  magna cum laude. While in law school, John served as a founding member and Comments Editor of the Hastings Science and Technology Law Journal. John interned at the California Attorney General’s Office in the Summer Honors Program, and externed for Justice James Lambden on the California Court of Appeal, District One, Division Two.

Before founding O’Neil & Rueppel, LLP, John worked as a Legal Research Assistant at the San Francisco Superior Court in the Law and Motion Department under Judge Peter Busch.
